Mayor Ireton

MCIA Commissioner Guy Wells, Tony White and David Lee of the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives are joined by Salisbury Mayor James Ireton for the opening ceremony of the Capacity Building Workshop.

The first Capacity Building Workshop for the Native American Community on the Eastern Shore provided an opportunity for community members to meet one on one with State and local officials. It was extremely important in that it offered three concurrent sessions providing information on mortgage and foreclosure, college preparation, energy assistance, mortgage and foreclosure, child support and health issues. The job fair allowed tri-county residents to apply for highly sought jobs in law enforcement and with nonprofit organizations. Of particular interest was a workshop on grant writing for those tribal leaders working on issues through their non-profit tribal organizations.
